The Re-write and The Holding Pattern

My oldest son is moving to another city, so I am busy being a mom and helping out.  Truth be told, I most likely will not get back to the re-write until early next week.  The good news, however, is that I am approximately 56 pages away from my minimum word count.  I have a feeling it might go a tad longer but as long as I do not surpass 120,000 words it will be fine.

The writing has been going extremely well so it is a shame to have to put it on hold.  Then again, there is something to be said for looking at it with rested eyes.

I have come to the conclusion that no one will ever see this blog.  I have tried everything but it still does not seem searchable, so to speak.  I am going to keep writing it anyway.  It's good for me and hopefully one day someone will find it.

See you next week.

Did I Write That?

Wow, did you ever forget that you'd written a specific line?  That's what happened to me yesterday as I was editing.  If you are anything like me, you've read and re-read your manuscript so many times that you can recite most of it in your sleep.  Well, yesterday I came across a line I forgot that I had written because it was a fairly recent edit.  I laughed my @$$ off.  I got the giggles over it so bad that I couldn't keep reading.

Before you jump to any conclusions, yes, that's a good thing.  It was supposed to be a funny line, I just didn't realize how funny it was.  So I'm thinking, if I had that reaction to it, hopefully future readers (and there will be future readers!) will be even more impressed and find it hilarious.  I could give you the line - but it wouldn't make any sense out of context.  I guess you'll just have to WAIT UNTIL I'M PUBLISHED!

Happy Wednesday - I'm off to write.

Monday, Monday

The day is nearly over, but it was a wonderful day! The sun was shining, it was very warm and I had the office window open wide while I wrote. I could hear the many and varied calls of birds and in the distance, I could hear children playing in the schoolgrounds at recess. It was a wonderful day to write, and write I did.

My re-write is going great guns thus far. I am very happy with what I have accomplished. When I started, I figured that I had at least three chapters worth of beefing up to do. After today, I have approximately two left. (whoo hoo!)

The other good news- no rejections in the old in-box. No news is good news. I still have a couple of feelers out there so I am waiting for replies, but not going to let that interfere with writing.

Hope your Monday was as good as mine.

Weekend Writing

My weekend writing is sporatic at best. There is usually way too much going on in the household for me to let my brain drift off to those secret places it has to go. I need to be living down the street from my characters, so to speak. I can't have t.v. in the background or someone listening to Lady Ga Ga in the next room. (even though I like Lady Ga Ga).

While most people dread Monday, I live for it now. There's no noise, very few distractions and lots of quiet. I can get inside my characters heads and not leave until I need a break.

I like to set myself a goal of 1,000 words per day. It doesn't always happen, for one reason or another, but then there are those days where I write considerably more - I guess that makes up for it.

To Blog or Not to Blog - Why Not!

Hello and Welcome:

I know that I'm not the only writer out there who is working their @$$ off to try and get published. We all know it can be a daunting task. I got to thinking - why should we do it alone? Ya, I know, we could be content with our little writers groups (no, that's not a slam, there is nothing wrong with writers groups) I just thought that someplace to quickly say what's on your mind or share a bad writing day with others who know what you are going through would be worthwhile. You know - sort of a "I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours" kind of place.

Lively conversation and constructive arguments are more than welcome, the rude and obnoxious should find someplace else to go! I won't bother telling you where.

Now that the formalities are over, I'll tell you what I'm doing today. I am revising my 80,000 word manuscript and turning it into a 100,000 word manuscript. When I originally started writing this book I had a different plan for it. But it is funny how time and experience can change your view of your own work. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually proud to say that I "love" my book and won't be changing it at its core. I'm simply making it meatier - ya, that's a good word - meatier. I've already begun it's sequel, but have put it on hold for now as this has been clawing at me for awhile.

Have a good Thursday and I hope someone finds me - remember, misery loves company!
